Mission & Editorial Policy

Mission

The mission of Science of Climate Change (SCC) is to promote rigorous and open scientific inquiry into the dynamics, drivers, and impacts of the Earth’s climate system. SCC is committed to publishing research that enhances understanding, clarifies underlying mechanisms, and stimulates informed scientific debate across climate related domains.

Central to this mission is fostering a scholarly environment in which diverse scientifically grounded perspectives can be examined, discussed, and debated through transparent analysis and reasoned argumentation. SCC values methodological clarity and reproducibility, seeking to contribute meaningfully to climate research.

Editorial Independence and Governance

SCC operates with full editorial independence. Decisions regarding manuscript review, and acceptance are made by the Editor-in-Chief, in collaboration with the appointed Co-Editors, based on scientific coherence and quality. Editorial governance is autonomous and free from external institutional, political, or financial influence.

Peer Review and Evaluation

All manuscripts submitted to SCC undergo structured peer review by qualified subject-matter experts. The review process assesses conceptual clarity, appropriateness of methods, transparency of analysis, quality of quantitative reasoning, and relevance to the journal’s interdisciplinary scope.

Scope of Scholarly Debate

SCC encourages submissions that address, test, refine, or challenge scientific interpretations of climate-related phenomena. The journal recognizes that differences in analytical approaches, model formulation, and data interpretation may lead to diverse conclusions about climate processes. Scholarly disagreement and alternative analytical perspectives are considered legitimate components of scientific development when supported by transparent reasoning and quantitative evidence.

Transparency and Ethics

Authors are expected to document methods, data sources, assumptions, and analytical procedures clearly to support reproducibility where feasible. All participants in the publication process, i.e. authors, reviewers, and editors are expected to adhere to principles of academic integrity, including proper attribution of sources, avoidance of plagiarism, and disclosure of relevant conflicts of interest.

Open Access Policy

SCC is a fully open-access journal. All published articles are freely accessible immediately upon release. Article processing charges support editorial and dissemination activities but do not influence editorial decisions.
